I Can’t Believe I’m in a Position to Follow a Michael Jackson Story with One About Prince
A couple of weeks ago I wrote about how TV Links and OiNK getting shut down was PROBABLY a sign that they were coming for the torrent sites next. And in the last couple of days that’s exactly what’s happened. (By the way the Michael story is here).
I’m still recovering from the shock of losing the greatest torrent site, Demonoid, a couple of days ago. About 2 years ago they got Suprnova (no e), and I was a user, but not a crazy user like I am now. I have weird hours. I’m a weird hours kind of guy. Not to mention I’ve got a ton of exterior house construction to get done before it gets seriously cold-Chicago Style! So I watch TV at weird times. And even though I love movies, I can’t go to an actual theater as often as I’d like. Hence, the torrent use.
Demonoid was a heavy hitter, but not really that well known by non-torrent users. But The Pirate Bay is VERY well known. Probably, in part, due to the fact that they actually work “Pirate” into their name. So before the weekend Torrentfreak reported The Pirate Bay was going to be sued by a prosecutor before 2008, and now they’re reporting via CNET that Prince himself is going after them. If some obscure foreign prosecutor goes after an organization it doesn’t really build up a mountain of press. But when the brand-name celebs step in, the game changes. Metallica anyone?
Speaking of band names, I’d like to talk about Interpol. But not the band; the original.
“The International Criminal Police Organization, better known by its telegraphic address Interpol, is an organization facilitating international police cooperation” from Wiki.
All I’m saying is, things seem to be happening. And these things appear to be happing at the same time like this seeming coordinated US/Hungary police action.
If we’re very lucky all of the attention will be directed towards Prince himself; and maybe people will think he’s taken his “Let’s Go Crazy” lyrics to heart. Why? Because he’s also currently suing Ebay, YouTube and fans with Prince-centric websites for having non-sanctioned Prince content.

Prince is making me embarrassed to be a Prince fan! Like the guy is really losing that much money from this stuff? I guess playing the Super Bowl doesn’t pay as much as I thought it did.
I loved Planet Earth (Chelsea Rogers and Guitar were my favs). Hell, the guy gave Guitar away for free from Verizon and gave copies of the album away for free with a UK newspaper. He must out of his mind.
Whooops. He must BE out of his mind. That makes more sense.
See, that’s something I was going to mention, but I wanted somebody else to point it out. He JUST GAVE AWAY MUSIC FOR FREE. I mean, it’s crazy right?
