Good article, it’s hard not to think about the Beatles as perfect. I’ve heard every one of their songs about 300000000 times but they still sound as good as ever. Just yesterday I listened to Abbey Road, it was as fun as it ever was!
Not sure about the Who though – they’re one of my favorites, but they had a lot of stuff like “Batman” and “Bucket T” that was fun but somewhat inconsequential.
I’d put Camper Van Beethoven in the category though – consistent, and their 2004 “reunion” album New Roman Times was on par with their old classic stuff.
Thanks MusicNerd for the comments AND compliment. Try to catch that VH1 special. Because, like you, before watching that show I would not have regarded the Who as highly. And, you know, there’s “questionable material” in every bands past-no way around that. I’ll have to give some thought to CVB, though.
This blog’s not even supposed to be amount music-but that’s the power of music, it can move you to do stuff!
I will watch it; it would be hard for me to regard the Who much higher than I already do, but I’d love to see the show. Thanks! (btw if you want to write more about music, check out my site http://music-nerds.com, it sounds like it may be your type of thing
PS Thanks for fixing my typing error in the above post.
