The Sport of Player Hating. This week; Will Smith and Dane Cook

Twice in one week . A blogger launched a salvo at a hip young Hollywood success story. Over at Film School Rejects Kevin Carr wrote an attack on Dane Cook , and over at Suicide Girls “TheCoolerKing ” wrote his essay asking why do people like Will Smith. It’s all tongue-in-cheek, kinda.

If you’re tall, handsome, funny and still considered young-the bloggers might hate you. The battle of nerds vs. popular guys has been a long and dirty one. Although really, it’s been a pretty one sided battle up until recent times. The nerds feel resentment toward the popular guys. And that’s where it ends. The popular guys tend to ignore the nerds. After all, they’re pretty busy with their women and tons of friends and fans.

But for the nerds it’s been a battle. And until the tech boom they never had any weapons to fight back with. In the movie Revenge of the Nerds they don’t receive their come-uppings until the last 10 minutes of the movie. Proving that brains over brawn is the key to success. And in the real world that’s been the key too. Bill Gates was never, ever, ever going to be a popular guy. Ever. But today he’s the richest man in the world. But you know what? He’s STILL not popular! And that’s the way it goes. Unless you’re talking about a fantasy. If you watch the movie Transformers you know within the first 5 minutes who wrote that movie. The main kid is an eBay user with no car, fast talking his way around the “dumb jocks,” and tech stuff saves the day. Fantasy. And I’ll tell you why.

The comments pages on those two blog pieces reveal that people initially jumped on the attack bandwagon but then, in both cases, a wave of people come to the defense of the movie stars. Popular is, by its very definition, popular.

Wow…you post THAT picture of Dane Cook and then ask why people hate him?

Why do people hate him? Well, let’s see…there is the STEALING of jokes. There is the obnoxious way he talks. There is his HORRIBLE acting. And it all adds up to why the only people who like him are hte ones who have to buy their friends and sex by joining fraternities. Time to grow up. At some point, you will be embarrassed to admit that you ever liked him.

I like Dane Cook. He is really funny and he is a fine actor. Sure he maybe swears too much but that is how he is and it is just for laughs. Don’t be so hard on him!

      Hi Random
I’ve never seen the show, but you were nice enough to come here twice, so I just looked it up.

I don’t know his work, but anybody keeping magic alive is doing good work. Even though I spent 20 years as a B actor in a lot of crappy movies and canceled TV show I started all that by doing magic as a kid.

    • Random said:

what kind of magic did you do? I dont know any tricks at all except one that Criss showed on the program. You should also make a blog about Criss Angel. Trust me, he is super popular and i am sure you would get a lot of comments for anything said about him.

      Hi Random!
Well, when I say I was a “kid” I mean an actual kid- 7, 8 years old. I saw the Houdini movie and started doing “escapes.” I had the other kids tie me up and chain me up, and I got a bunch of library books on knots and locks and put on shows and sold popcorn. Kid stuff!

Maybe I WILL do some type of Angel site down the line, I’m supposed to be fininshing a long “celebrity” piece this week.

In the mean time, maybe you could start a free blog at blogger.com and show us the kind of stuff a real fan would like to see on a Criss Angel blog! If you do come tell me the address.

Congratulations Random. I’m very happy. Now you have something that is totally yours and you can do anything you like with it. I visited and left a comment.

Normally (except this past week) I write about 6 out of 7 days for this blog, but you don’t have to do that much, you can do once a week.

I have a contact at the top of the page if you ever want some help.

    • Random said:

thanx for all your help, how do i get people to see it, and how do i put pics. on?
